Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

• In depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite of programs is a must.
• Prepare files for print from several formats and workflows including native files and pretrapped artwork. Work with customers to create and/or modify original artwork for brochures, catalogs, litho and top-sheet for the corrugated industry as well as other commercial printing projects.
• This position also requires knowledge of Microsoft applications.
• Technician must be able to type a minimum of 35 words per minute.
• Technician will have an opportunity to work with customers to help educate them in proper file creation; therefore the position required good interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to meet tight deadlines in a high volume environment.
• Must demonstrate design and layout knowledge and be able to translate knowledge into appealing practical layouts.
• Strong skill set is required in color correction, clone work and combining multiple Images.
• Ability to resolve issues on press including those from press, pre-press and plate to meet the customers required results.

Job Requirements / Qualifications:

• Will be responsible for maintaining a strong working knowledge of computer applications that apply to the Graphic Arts Industry and office environment.
• Must have the ability to provide training on digital and conventional output devices along with file preparation to both personnel in the prep-press department and others within the company.
• Must have a complete understanding of total print shop environment from order entry through finishing.
• This position also required a strong knowledge of color theory and the ability make color corrections for outgoing proofs as well has jobs on press.

Education Required

• An associate degree or other post secondary award in graphic arts, communications or design can help desktop publishers acquire the training the need to enter the field.
• Stand-alone desktop publishing courses that show students how to import copy and format digital pages can also be found at community, technical or trade colleges. Completion of a 4-year degree program, such as one that might lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts, is the usual requirement for aspiring graphic designers.
• Experience with computer graphics and page layout software is important, and job-seekers should be ready with a professional portfolio of high-quality work.

Skills Required

• Good communications skills are necessary for negotiating with clients and printers. A typesetter will also need to have a sharp eye and be attentive to detail.
• A strong sense of design and color, a familiarity with fonts and an understanding of different graphic styles will be useful, along with knowledge of printing and publishing technology.

Description

A proofreader performs a 'quality check' on publications, usually just before they are due to go to print. They may work on books, magazines and newspapers, websites, as well as publications aimed at a specialist audience, such as academic or business reports.

Proofreaders check that:

• the text matches the original
• spelling and style are correct and consistent
• page numbers, headings and captions are correct
• photos and illustrations are correctly captioned.

When they identify a change that needs to be made, proofreaders mark it, using a recognized set of symbols. They usually mark the printed proofs, but sometimes this task may be done on screen, using specialized software.

Proofreaders need to be:

• scrupulous about detailed work
• skilled in written English
• self-motivated
• good at concentrating for long spells
• good communicators
• comfortable working with IT
• interested in the publishing industry.
